Stuff I can't find.

If you add it up, I've been looking for a 401 to build for the Rambler for almost three years. Today, I am going to give up and build another 360 only this time with a 401 crank and a solid roller cam for some fun revs. This seems like a more realistic build since the 360 is still the most common AMC engine in the yard by far. I will try to make it the ultimate build since it will be the last for a while. Anyone have any cool suggestions or trick combos they'd like to share?

16. I'll just try this Blog thing again for fun....I live in the backwoods of Idaho (straight shot to Vegas though!) worked in so. Cal for 6 weeks last spring; can't even imagine actually living near LA (or any of those cities); hope you guys enjoy it? (lots of chicks around there though)...and rods.

17. Hey Glad!find a 401 Yet? how bout I give You one!!(fresh crank and block).how about AMC transmissions, th 400s,727s I'll give You them too. and I have a pair of drag stars 8.5 x 5.5 rear spacing with 10-28's that will fit Your Rambler.
None of Us will ever use all the crap We collect and when You realize that, You have a lot less stuff to walk around in the shop.Comming to Texas any time soon?(pinks at san antonio raceway park maybee?)if so, bring a truck!!!
If You want, I can share with You some of the scrap yard tricks I have learned over 18 years of building nothing but Rambler Americans(14 so far and counting), like narrow trac jeep dana rear swap. spring relocation,mustang front spindle swap,easy rack and pinion, disc brake swaps, easy rear wheel tub sectioning,and a bunch more.just let me know where and how and I will get You some pics of this and some of My cars. thanks for the Mag ..been a crafter since before My first date . 19. My neighbr did the machine work on his 360 in his Jeep CJ-5 as reccomended by an old AMC guy, and it ended up being a 401 i believe. The block had to be clearanced but as i recall he turned that 360 into a 401. I dont know the exact details but you could od some research.. i do remember watching this bad ass unit on 44's doing wheel stands up and down the road in forn of my house.

23. Chrysler has a huge connection with AMC!
1. Walter Chrysler worked for Charles Nash when Nash was president of GM in the 1910s. Nash left in 1916 to buy the Thomas B. Jeffery Company (made the first Ramblers) and invited Chrysler along, but Walter P. decided to stay with GM until he left to turn Maxwell-Chalmers into Chrysler Corp.

2. Nash and Chrysler remained friends. In 1936 Nash was getting ready to retire and asked Chrysler for advice on who he should get to run Nash Motors for him. Chrysler recommended George Mason, who worked at Kelvinator. Nash must have thought a lot of Chrysler (and Mason) -- he bought Kelvinator just to get Mason to run the new Nash-Kelvinator Corp. Could you see the prez of GM asking the prez of Honda America for such advice? Or even of Ford/Chrysler??

24. The final AMC/Mopar connection I suspect goonas is looking for is May 1987. Chrysler bought Renault's 46% interest in AMC, making Chrysler the majority stock holder. In August 87 all remaining AMC shareholders agreed to swap their AMC stock for Chrysler stock, making AMC a wholly owned subsidiary of Chrysler Corp. The deal cost Chrysler around $1.1 billion total. Chrysler mainly wanted Jeep and the new factory Renault had just built in Canada. AMC ceased to exist at teh end of 88, with the new division being named Jeep/Eagle. Eagle only lasted through 1998. It featured mostly "captive imports", but the last AMC car (designed in conjunction with Renault), the Eagle Premier, was also sold. Part of the deal with Renault to buy AMC included building the Premier for a number of years. Other cars were Mitsubishi based, most prominently the Talon. A Chrysler LH based car, the Eagle Vision, replaced the Premier in 93. Most people don't realize that the LH was based on the Premier design.

25. glad try ctc autocorral in denton texas they have lotsa oddball stuff like that in there be an excellent junkyard crawl also any chance of a sbc econo twin turbos for a budget article? it doesnt need to make 1000 hp just be cool and fun

27. I can ask- but a friend I know in Burbank had three 401's last summer- two I believe were for sale. I have a'70 390 block you could stick a 401 crank and pistons in and voila! 401- has two pistons stuck ( looks like it had a blown head gasket and water got in- all pistons at .030 meaning the two affected cyls would have to be bored larger or sleeved down to .030.
