Track days

A few weeks ago, I drove out to California Speedway in Fontana (the same place where the NASCAR boys race) for the Redline Time Attack event that is mostly populated by import cars. I went because Spectre Performance now sponsors a muscle car class for these timed events. The Track Attack format is basically your car against the clock. You are on the track with similar cars, but instead of racing them, you race the clock. This is a great opportunity to wail on your car on a road course and have a good time. The Time Attack schedule runs road courses all over the country, with the 2008 version covering seven different tracks. Check out the schedule at redlinetimeattack.com. By the time you read this, the season will almost be over, but it's a chance to plan for next year. I had an opportunity to drive Spectre's green 383ci small-block six-speed Camaro on the track and got it up to 130 mph on the banking in Turn 1. It was a blast. Check out the street class rules and see how you would do against those imports. Don't be surprised at how well they take a corner.
