Back when I was the editor of Car Craft (between 1984 and 1987), we created this Camaro project car that we decided to drive all around the U.S. with a then-brand-new B&M blower. It turned out to be a very successful story, but before we could get started, we needed a name on which we could hang this whole exercise. Then Tech Editor Chuck Hanson and I were driving home in his Chevelle one night when we pulled alongside a Greyhound bus that had the term Americruiser stenciled on its side, and I said, "Chuck, that's it. We'll call it Americruise." And thus the story was born. Later, Rod & Custom magazine borrowed the term for their annual drive to the various car shows. But don't let those guys tell you they came up with it. They stole it from Car Craft and we stole it from the Greyhound bus people. Maybe we should call it recycling.
