The Quick Disconnect Engine

We were bench racing at lunch the other day and I had this great idea. My white ’66 Chevelle has become a test mule for all kinds of parts. Future plans call for several big- and small-block engines in the car, so I started thinking about how to make those engine swaps easier. The plan started with those Jiffy-Tite quick-disconnect AN fittings for the fuel and auto trans lines. Then I found some high-amp quick-disconnect fittings for the starter motor cables. All the electrical connections could be split with trick Weatherpack connectors that come apart in seconds. I even thought about quick-pull pit pins for the motor mount through bolts but thought better of that. Quick-disconnect pins would work for the throttle linkage, however. Any fluid lines that run through the firewall could use Jiffy-Tite fittings. You still have to drain the coolant and unhook the radiator hoses, but with a Chevelle, there's plenty of room to leave the radiator in place. This leaves the bellhousing, torque converter, and headers as the only real bolts we'd have to remove. It might be fun to see how quickly we could pull and replace the engine. It's possible to do it in under a half hour if everything went the way it should. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?
