The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at a dismal 6,763 today, closing below 7,000 for the first time in 12 years. Thanks to toxic assets and credit default swappers we’re all in a big boiling cauldron of hot water. I’m not one of those people who looks for meaning in numbers, but in light of this historic event, I decided to scan Craig’s List Los Angeles to see what $6,760 would buy, assuming anyone has that lying around anymore.
First up is this 2002 Monte Carlo. Not necessarily our market, but not a bad ride, and I like the burgundy paint. Check it out- the guy still has the plastic wrap protecting the floor!
Next, feast your eyes on this cool sandrail the owner is selling with a trailer for $6700. That would certainly be a luxury buy unless things get so bad that we need one of these things to get around on. Even though it has a small engine, it’s probably a blast to drive.
The ultimate stupid buy at this point in time might be this wheel and tire combination some guy is looking to unload cause he “just needs some cash”. Don’t we all. I’m sorry but I’d need my head examined if I spent even a dime on 26 inch wheels and 305/30-26 tires.
Hopefully things don’t get this bad, but $6700 will also buy a plot in Forest Lawn Cemetery. How's the mortician joke go- they’re dying to get in?
