We met with the Hedman people the other day, and I was surprised to learn the number-one-selling header was a small-block Chevy engine swap into the ’82 to ’93 model S-10 pickup truck. If you think about it, this is a great idea. You can find ’80s-era S-10 pickups for $500 in almost any city in the country, and the small-block Chevy is without a doubt the least expensive V-8 engine on the planet. Combine that with the fact that the S-10’s shipping weight for a four-cylinder truck is around 2,800 pounds and you have the makings of a great little performance vehicle. The company Jaguars That Run (jagsthatrun.com) probably has the most comprehensive books on performing the swap. Sounds like a real fun shop truck, doesn’t it?
