Small-Block Chevy Cross-Ram Idea

An Idea Just For Fun

How ’bout this for a fun idea? There is a company making a reproduction cross-ram Z28 manifold, but the price is a bit high for our wallet, so we did a little research. Eventually, we ran across an Offenhauser cross-ram manifold for the small-block Chevy that looks very similar. Our idea would be to combine this Offy manifold with a pair of 600-cfm mechanical-secondary Holley carbs and then carefully tune the idle circuits to make this whole combination very driveable. Bolt this in an early Camaro with a five-speed behind it and you have a 21st century version of the cross-ram Camaros that ran in Trans-Am in 1968. Of course, you could also make a case for using a pair of four-barrel throttle bodies on a cross-ram manifold and go with a multipoint fuel injection setup that would have excellent driveability. These are just a couple of neat ideas to kick around for your next bench racing session.
