Some of the Best Ideas Are The Simplest

We had a great conversation with Tom Lieb at Scat the other day and learned something from, gasp, a Honda rod. Tom showed us his Honda rod that incorporates a small, perhaps 0.080 to 0.100-inch-wide slot cut into the outer edge of the big end of the rod at the 12 0’clock position that will shoot oil off the rod directly up to the bottom of the piston. This slot can be cut on both sides of the big end of the rod. This oil can be used to improve piston durability and does not require any other special machining to the block, so you don’t need those expensive oilers that pull lube from the main gallery. Just mill a slot into your rod and have a nice day.
