V-Band Clamps Are Cool

Another Simple Idea That Works

Sealing the exhaust system on modified cars has been a headache for car crafters since the first set of headers were created. With the incredible heat and pressures generated by turbochargers, this industry long ago adopted a sealing system called V-band clamps. While these clamps are not only space efficient and offer a virtually leak-proof seal, they were expensive—until now. We recently ran across a set of V-band clamps from Afco called V-ring kits. Sold in 2½, 3, and 3½-inch diameter kits, they offer a smooth transition between header collector and exhaust system, are easy to disassemble, and improve ground clearance. The best part is the cost at around $65.00, but we were not able to verify that at the time of this writing. Check ’em out ’cause they’re cool and they work. This will involve welding, so keep in mind that this labor will add to the cost of the project unless you have access to a TIG welder.
