The A/C Conversion that Costs Less and Works Great

While this may not be the warmest time to think about upgrading the air conditioning in your ’60s GM muscle car, if you have an original system that includes that big, heavy cast-iron compressor hanging off the front of your small- or big-block Chevy, consider this idea. The guys at Classic Auto Air (classicautoair.com) believe the basic system that’s mounted on the firewall is a very efficient configuration that combines the heat and cooling components. What does need to be upgraded is the ancient and heavy compressor and the condenser that sit in front of the radiator. Classic offers an upgrade kit for most ’60s GM muscle cars, which uses a late model Sanden aluminum compressor and mount along with a new condenser and hoses. Then all you have to do is convert over to the late model 134a refrigerant and you’re all set. Check this out—it’s an easy way to upgrade you’re A/C at a budget price.
