The latest piece to come off the foundry floor is a brand-new aluminum LS-series block from Racing Head Service. First off, the block will come in two deck heights, either the standard 9.240 or a raised-deck 9.800. The cam position is also raised, basically two chain links, which helps to clear the crankshaft throws because the block is designed to handle as much as a massive 4.6-inch stroke. RHS also increased the cylinder bore liner length, which is roughly the same as the factory LS7 block, but that’s still rather short when considering using a stroke length as long as 4.6 inches. The block can accommodate up to a 4.165-inch bore, which if pushed to the limit, means with a tall deck block you could build a 502ci motor. More realistically, a 4.250-inch stroke and 4.165-inch bore will give you a 463ci engine that’s more than enough to make upward of 700 hp normally aspirated and lord knows how much power with a supercharger or turbo. Price for the block will be in the $4,800 range and should be available sometime in April.
