Buy of the week.

2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra. If you don’t buy it I will. I love these cars. I may have mentioned it before, but these are without a doubt my favorite car built in the last 30 years. I would take one of these over any Corvette, any Porsche, BMW Ferrari, Lamborghini… OK, if you gave me a Ferrari or Lambo I’d take it for a couple of days then sell it to buy 10 of these.

Why am I such a staunch believer? These cars are one bolt-on away from huge power. Add a bigger supercharger, and you’re making 500 hp easily. I recently photographed one of these cars for the magazine that’s putting over 600 hp to the wheels with a big Whipple supercharger. Everything else on the car is stock- heads, cams, block, crank, rods. He’s still got the stock exhaust manifolds and intermediate pipes with no less than four catalytic converters!  How is this possible? The short block in these cars are some of the strongest Mod motors ever built: forged everything, Manly H-beam rods, and a boost-friendly compression ratio, in stock configuration, these things aren’t even breaking a sweat.

In my opinion, the 2003 and 2004 cars are the best Cobras to buy. Those are the only years the supercharged 32V 4.6 was offered, and I’ve been watching the prices drop on these models. It seems that guys are selling them to build the new S197 body-style GT500’s. Either that or they’re selling them 'cause they need the money. Check out this eBay listing. As I write this, the bidding is only up to $11,600. What a bargain.
