No Foolin’, it worked! (So Far!!)
Yes, my Crown Victoria is back on the road after finishing the thread insert repair of my damaged spark plug threads. Read about the problem in my previous blog
I finished the repair last Friday and spent all weekend driving the car, including a tough blast down Mulholland highway. So far so good, the repair has held strong.
I won’t do a step-by-step description of the repair process on-line, but it will appear as an article in the magazine soon. I will say, however, the kit was very easy to use, and the instructions were awesome. I would definitely recommend the Lock-n-stitch kit to anyone with a damaged cylinder head. The kit itself is expensive- between $600 and $1,000 depending on if you buy the master kit or just the one with the tooling that fits your spark plug seat style (the shape and reach of the spark plug seat changed three times throughout the manufacturing run). So, of you’re on a really tight budget, buying a used head may be the better option. However, buying the kit and doing the repair yourself will save you at least $1,000 over having a new head installed somewhere.
If anyone is experiencing spark plug problems or is interested in the repair, feel free to email me at john.mcgann@carcraft.com
