Chrysler Puts Big Money in Tranny Plant; Ford Puts Big Money in Engine Plant

Chrysler is investing $374 mil and adding 1,250 jobs toward boosting production of transmissions in North-Central Indiana. The Kokomo Transmission, Kokomo Casting, and Indiana Transmission I Plants will get $212 mil for more tooling and equipment to make the eight- and nine-speed trans, while the Tipton plant will get $162 mil for the nine-speed. Meanwhile, Ford is investing almost $200 mil and adding 450 new jobs at its Cleveland Engine Plant, where production of the 2.0L EcoBoost engine will begin in late 2014.
